A 20-year-old Detroit man was arrested Aug. 13 after he assaulted a police officer during an altercation outside the Blue Cafe hookah lounge, 5125 Schaefer.
Police were called to the parking lot of the business just before 1 a.m. on a report of a group of about 20 men making noise and causing disturbances outside.
When police arrived, the group dispersed and officers left the area.
At about 1:30 a.m., police were called back to the parking lot after the group returned to the area and reportedly grew in size.
When officers arrived a second time, about 100 people were observed in the parking lot, some of whom were yelling profanities, fighting and jumping on cars parked in the lot, according to a report.
When officers told the group to disperse, they became agitated and a fight ensued when an officer attempted to arrest one of the men.
As the officer tried to take him into custody, the man allegedly fought with him by striking him and causing his body camera to fall off.
Police had to use an arm bar and wrist locks to control the man. The officer suffered minor cuts during the incident.
The man was charged with assault and battery of a police officer and resisting arrest.
